Our boiled peanuts story…
The Salted Pantry was born from the nostalgia of childhood memories... Taking trips to the beach and spotting a small roadside stand on the way home. An old truck full of steaming pots with a crudely drawn sign that said, “Boiled Peanuts” - a signal for comfort and sustenance after a long day in the hot southern sun. Or a random stop at a gas station in the middle-of-nowhere on long back-country roads. On the counter inside there were two large crock pots full of hot boiled peanuts. One for salted, and one for Cajun spiced. Sitting in the car listening to tunes, holding a warm soggy paper bag or Styrofoam cup and slurping down each peanut with delight, pure southern bliss!

Our owner, Michelle Duhon, grew up in Central Florida and has many fond memories of eating boiled peanuts across the southern region. Her Cajun heritage fueled a lifelong passion for southern cuisine. After moving to Washington many years ago, she spent a long time searching for some of her favorite southern foods, including boiled peanuts. But these are not easy foods to find in the PNW! So she decided to take matters into her own hands.
After spending over 20 years working in early childhood education, Michelle found herself part of a mass layoff from a corporation where she had been a Professional Development Specialist. This felt like the perfect moment to take a pause from career burnout and pivot to making a longtime dream come true. In June of 2026, The Salted Pantry had their grand opening event and it was a huge success! Southern transplants and curious PNW foodies alike were thrilled to discover Hot Boiled Peanuts finally available in the area. Customers were also delighted by our signature Boiled Peanut Hummus which has continued to be a big hit at our markets and events.
