The edamame of the South!

In the United States, you’re likely to find boiled peanuts mostly somewhere in the Southern region of the country. Boiled peanuts have been a long standing traditional food offered in Southern states and have been closely associated with roadside stands or gas stations. But like most southern comfort dishes, the roots of boiled peanuts are found dating back to the earliest years of this country. Although, boiled peanuts are not exclusive to American culture, they are found among many other cultures around the world!

Essentially, the boiled peanut is exactly what it sounds like - peanuts that are in the shell and boiled with seasonings. It starts with fresh green peanuts that are carefully cleaned and boiled in water. Seasoning is added (typically spicy, savory flavors) and after a few hours, the boiled peanuts are ready to eat. Boiled peanuts should be easy to open, the peanuts should easily come out of the shell and have a soft buttery texture - but not too mushy! The best boiled peanuts are flavored to perfection and provide some texture while being consumed.

At The Salted Pantry, we carefully source our high-quality fresh green peanuts and ship them from farms in the South. Our peanuts are cooked and seasoned to perfection, every time! If you haven’t tried them before and you’re not sure what to expect, if you’ve ever had edamame you’ve had something very close to the boiled peanut. If you’re already a huge fan of boiled peanuts, we can’t wait to satisfy your craving! Come see what flavors we are currently offering and discover your new favorite.
